My Freedom Prompt 4

Prompt four wanted to know: Have you ever been inspired by the words of a poem? Share the poem with your blog readers and tell them how you came to value its words. Well, my inspired words don't come from a poem but rather from a movie. Here they are:

Dad: Do you love Drew? Do you love Drew?
Daughter: You mean like you loved mom?
Dad: Forget about me and mom. Are you going to marry him?
Daughter: Probably.
Dad: Listen to me, I'm crazy about the guy. He's smart. He's aggressive. He could carry Parish Communications into the 21st century and me along with him.
Daughter: So, what's wrong with that?
Dad: That's for me. I'm talking about you. It's not what you say about Drew; it's what you don't say.
Daughter: Maybe you're not listening.
Dad: Oh, I'm listening. Yes I am. There's not an ounce of excitement, not a whisper of a thrill. This relationship has all the passion of a pair of tick mice. I want you to get swept away. I want you to levitate. I want you to sing with rapture, dance like a Dervish.
Daughter: Oh that's all?
Dad: Yeah. Be deliriously happy. At least leave yourself open to be.
Daughter: OK. Be deliriously happy. OK. I shall do my utmost.
Dad: I know it's a cornball thing, but love is passion. Obsession. Someone you can't live without. I say fall headover heals. Find someone you can love like crazy and who'll love you the same way back. How do you find him? Well, you forget your head and you listen to your heart. I'm not hearing any heart. 'Cause the truth is, honey, there's no sense living your life without this. To make the journey and not fall deeply in love...well, you haven't lived.
Daughter: Bravo.
Dad: Oh, you're tough.
Daughter: I'm sorry. OK. Give it to me again, but the short version.
Dad: OK. Stay open. Who knows? Lightning could strike.

This is from the movie "Meet Joe Black". This passage just did it for me. I watched the movie after I was separated from my first husband and the words were so powerful. I didn't really want another relationship any time soon. I wanted time to figure out where I was headed, what I wanted in a relationship. I definitely knew what I didn't want from a relationship and this just reinforced the way I was feeling about the value of a relationship for me. Better alone than settling for someone without listening to my heart.
